Ideal fishing conditions

Both resident and visiting Disabled Anglers in Argyll can fish on Loch Barnluasgan near Lochgilphead on a MK1 Wheelyboat which offers access to wheelchair users via a ramp. The facility is run by Lochgilphead & District Angling Club. The Wheelyboat was donated by the Dalriada Project and funding was provided by Awards for all for the jetty/access. The boat comes complete with an electric outboard, fully charged battery and a boat seat for fishing companions or carers. Loch Barnluasgan has a good head of Wild and stocked Brown Trout and produces good bags of fish. The loch is boat fishing only and has great weed cover in the margins and benefits from large hatches of natural flies, Dark Olives, Heather Flies, Sedges and even Mayflies to name a few. The loch fishes well early on in the season and continues to produce fish through the summer months. Traditional patterns like the Clan Chief, Bibio, Soldier Palmer, Spiders, Invicta, produce fish but early season damsel nymphs tempt many good sized trout. Dry flies are also productive on dull days. Disabled Anglers can use any legal method to fish on the loch but we ask that any other anglers use fly only. The boat slip is situated very close to the car park for ease of access.

The boat can be busy so booking in advance is recommended. There is no charge for hire of the Wheelyboat but there is a daily fishing permit of £6 required for each angler. Booking information at the bottom of this page.

The Wheelyboat operates from the 15th March to 6th October

The club also offers fishing on many other lochs with traditional style boats and also bank fishing. They can be booked in the same way as the Wheelyboat. However there is a daily fee for them.
